Janelle Burrell is an Emmy nominated general assignment reporter for CBS 2 and WLNY 10/55.
She joined the station in March 2013, contributing to the news team’s coverage of major events, ranging from the deadly Metro North train crash in the Bronx to the Tri-State area playing host to the 2014 Super Bowl.
Burrell is a native New Yorker, born in Brooklyn and raised in Poughkeepsie, and has spent most of her career working across the Empire State. Burrell joined the CBS 2 team after working as a reporter and fill-in anchor for News 12 Westchester. Prior to News 12, Burrell worked in upstate New York at Time Warner Cable News (formerly YNN Syracuse) as a reporter in their Binghamton bureau.
Before beginning her on-air career, Burrell worked behind the scenes at Fox 5 in Manhattan and at MSNBC. She also spent time as a freelance reporter for Brooklyn Independent Television while earning her master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism where she was an Andrew Goodman Foundation Scholar. Burrell has a bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in biology from Penn State.
In addition to her New York Emmy nomination, Burrell’s work has been recognized by the Syracuse Press Club and the New York Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
