On Saturday, October 19, from 2 pm-3:30 pm, Reel Sisters will present a special lecture series film and panel conversation on moving through trauma and obstacles to find a path towards healing from the inside out.

Reel Sisters #IGotYourBack: A Time for Holding Space & Healing will feature Ballet After Dark, directed by B.Monet, and And Nothing Happened, produced and directed by Naima Ramos Chapman. Each film takes on an intimate journey of survivors reclaiming their power.

Special Guest:

Mary Morris: Mary is a second year Masters Candidate (May 2020) in the Drama Therapy program at New York University. She is currently completing clinical internships with ENACT and Bellevue Hospital, working with students, and incarcerated populations in acute care. Mary is a previous intern at and currently consults for Girl Be Heard. She is a proud alumna of Howard University (BFA), where she began exploring thoroughly how theatre could serve as a medium for healing and justice, intervening in the school-to-prison pipeline. During her time at Howard, she completed coursework at the D.C. Jail, doing arts-based work with incarcerated men ages 18-25 on their Young Men Emerging unit. Her curiosities around theatre, healing, and activism have led Mary to do work and study in Oxford and South Africa. Mary’s current research looks at developing a drama therapy protocol for pregnant Black women who are at-risk of preterm birth, contributing to her overall desire to strengthen and support the Black family unit. In addition, Mary is co-creator and a member of the HBCU Initiative, aimed at educating, recruiting, and supporting the advancement of Black drama therapists.
